Local Venturers make statewide steps

A ceremony was held recently at the Warracknabeal Band and Scout Hall to invest Rohan Richards and Benjamin Holland into the Victorian Venturers State Council (VSC).
The ceremony on October 19 was led by Warracknabeal Venturer Kiara Cooksley, with assistance from Horsham leader and VSC correspondent Quinton Murphy, and VSC commissioner Duncan McColl and assistant state commissioner Gary Steinhardt travelled from Melbourne to perform the official investiture.
The VSC manages the “behind-the-scenes” decisions and planning for all Venturer activities, events, awards and camps, and Benjamin and Rohan may be called to attend ceremonies and meetings across the state.
Benjamin and Rohan were asked to step forward and lay their hand on the Venturer flag, as they made the Scout Promise, before receiving their state scarf and badge.
Benjamin was also presented with a certificate celebrating his adult appointment, as his role on the council comes with adult responsibilities and privileges.
He is only the third person in Australia to be given an adult appointment in the Scouting movement under the age of 18.
The evening was attended by the Horsham Venturers Unit and their leader Darren “Woody” Nuske, along with Warracknabeal Venturers leader Anne Pearce, and Rainbow Scout leader Peter “Gunner” Pearce.
Jackie Cooksley was also in attendance with Jaiden and Jackson Cooksley, representing the local Scout and Joey groups.
Venturers have been running in Warracknabeal for over a year now, meeting every Thursday during school terms between 6pm and 8pm at the Band/Scout Hall in Devereaux Street.
Anyone from ages 15 to 18 are welcome.
Joeys, Cubs and Scouts meet every Tuesday during school terms, for anyone aged from five to 15.
All age groups have many opportunities for camps both locally and nationally.
In January 2024, our Venturer unit will head overseas to Venture24, with Rohan heading to New Zealand while Benjamin and Kiara head to Fiji.
It is the largest Venturer camp in Victoria, with over 800 youth attending for a fortnight of adventure and friendship.
