Local stars bring Shakespeare to Horsham
Three talented performers from Warracknabeal and Rupanyup will shine on stage this spring when A Midsummer Night’s Dream transforms the Horsham Botanic Gardens into a world of magic, music and mischief.
Warracknabeal’s Natasha Kuchel will play the playful and chaotic fairy Puck, while Caleb Eilola brings passion to the role of Demetrius.
Natasha has also contributed behind the scenes as one of the show’s costume designers.
Rupanyup’s Elle Teasdale takes on the role of Helena, one of the young lovers at the heart of Shakespeare’s beloved comedy.
“Helena is such a relatable character,” Elle said.
“She’s passionate and determined, but she also has moments of vulnerability. I think audiences will really connect with her.”
For Natasha, the chance to play Puck has been pure joy.
“It’s fun, cheeky, and a bit chaotic – I can’t wait to share that energy with the audience,” she said.
“Demetrius is headstrong and emotional, and he gets swept up in the wildest night imaginable, Caleb said.
“Playing him in such a beautiful outdoor setting will be really special.”
Director Maddi Ostapiw said the three regional actors bring exceptional creativity to the production.
“Elle, Natasha and Caleb capture the humour, energy and magic of Shakespeare’s story,” she said.
“They’re a wonderful example of the talent we have in our region.
Featuring live music, bold costumes, and a custom-built stage revolve, Smart Artz Theatre Inc.’s outdoor production promises audiences a magical night under the stars.
Performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will take place on October 31, November 1 and 2 at the Horsham Botanic Gardens.
