Local industry partners to enhance sustainable practices
Grampians Wimmera Mallee (GWM) Tourism recently hosted workshops in Horsham and Halls Gap as a part of their Sustainable and Regenerative Learning Program.
In partnership with The Tourism Collective, the program is dedicated to empowering regional tourism operators with practical tools and insights for enhancing their environmental and social impact.
To ensure the program met industry needs, GWM Tourism surveyed its network of industry partners to understand their specific sustainability challenges which helped shape a hands-on, solutions-oriented forum.
The workshops provided foundational knowledge to help operators integrate sustainable practices as it encouraged practical steps across all facets of tourism operations, reinforcing actionable methods for sustainability.
Nic Cooper, a recognised expert in sustainable tourism and positive impact practices, from The Tourism Collective, spoke during these workshops introducing participants to actionable strategies for gradual implementation, highlighting the tangible benefits of sustainability practices, from operational savings to increased appeal among eco-conscious travellers.
Backed by the state government, the Sustainable and Regenerative Learning Program aligns
with larger plans to position Victoria as a leader in sustainable tourism.
“Regenerative tourism empowers us to protect our landscapes, honour local heritage, and foster community resilience," GWM Tourism CEO Marc Sleeman said.
“By equipping our partners with sustainable practices, we’re not just enhancing today’s visitor experience, we’re safeguarding the future of tourism in our region."
Following the workshops, the Positive Impact Learning Tours allowed participants to see sustainability in action from local businesses leading in this space, further emphasising real-
world applications.
