Local athletes celebrated at 2024 WRSA sports star of the year awards
The sports star of the year awards were held on February 14.

The Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly hosted its night of nights on Friday, February 14, as the sport star of the year awards were held at the Coughlin Park Community Centre.
A capacity crowd was in attendance as the 2024 calendar year was celebrated.
Water-skier Peter Smith won the sports star of the year, while Kate-Lyn Perkin was inducted into the hall of fame as last year's winner.
Sports assembly executive officer Tony Caccaviello opened the evening, while Paralympian Liam Twomey addressed the room.
The award winners were:
Sports star of the year - Peter Smith (water skiing)
Hall of fame inductee - Kate-Lyn Perkin
Ian Niblett scholarship and junior sports star of the year - Georgia Foster (Horsham Little Athletics)
Valued volunteer of the year - Anthony Taylor (Wimmera Karting Club)
Grassroots award for former Wimmera athlete - Tim Decker (cycling)
Access all abilities local athlete sports star - Rachael Werner (Wimmera Whippets)
Access all abilities national athlete sports star - Samuel Hudson (football)
Spirit of community award - Laharum Football Netball Club
Indigenous sports star - Kianah Batty (Horsham and District Soccer Club/Natimuk United Football and Netball Club)
Unsung hero award - Kim van Buuren (Volleyball Horsham)
Veteran of the year - Warren Perris (Warracknabeal Lawn Bowls Club)
Coach of the year - Bec McIntyre (Laharum Football and Netball Club/Horsham Basketball)
Official of the year - Hamish Roberts (Laharum Football and Netball Club)
Women of sport award - Laelah Robertson (Volleyball Horsham)
Club of the year - Volleyball Horsham
School of the year - Horsham College
Team of the year - Laharum Football Netball Club's A Grade netball
