Lions Club grants opening
SINCE November 1, 2023, the Dimboola Lions Club has hosted the Container Deposit Scheme’s (CDS) reverse vending machine.
In that time, the Dimboola community has deposited almost two million cans and bottles.
The second round of the Dimboola Lions community grant scheme has been launched with applications opening on Monday, March 30 and closing on Friday, May 1.
The fund is designed to assist community groups in initiating projects that will provide tangible benefits for the community.
The project must have the following:
• A direct benefit for the Dimboola community.
• Identify specific environmental, social or economic benefits.
• The benefit must go beyond the usual business of the group.
• There must be tangible recognition of the Dimboola Lions Club contribution.
This round will be for a total of $10,000, and applicants can apply for any amount of money within the $10,000.
While there is no requirement for matching funds, any funds that assist in improving the viability of the project will be well regarded in the grant assessment.
Applicants are encouraged to come up with innovative ideas that are more than just funding a piece of equipment.
“Generating income from the Container Deposit Scheme has provided the Dimboola Lions Club with a stream of funding, and it is important that we ensure that those funds support projects that benefit the Dimboola community,” Dimboola Lions Club president, Paul Lehmann, said.
The community fund has been made possible through the ongoing work of dedicated Lions members and volunteers.
The Container Deposit machine is open seven days a week from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.
It is normally closed on public holidays.
“Our volunteers put in more than 2000 hours a year to keep the vending machine operational,” Mr Lehmann said.
“While it is not onerous work, it includes cleaning the machines, changing bins when they are full and fixing any faults that may occur.”
