Let the defence begin
Last year's premiers are expecting their opposition to bring an energetic and quick game style to their match on Saturday.
Ararat and Horsham Demons will kick off the opening round of the Wimmera Football Netball League for 2025, and both coaches say they can't wait to get back into it.
"We've been focusing on trying to play the game on our terms and not get sucked into going flat-out all the time, which can be hard to do in round one," Ararat coach Tom Mills said.
"I think the team with the better skills will go a long way to winning it.
"The weather seems like it's going to be good so some good skills should be on display."
Mills said he was looking forward to seeing Baydn Cosgriff take on his leadership role as vice-captain.
"He will really take control of the back six down there," Mills said.
"I'm also just excited to see how our new players fit into the side."
Meanwhile, Demons coach Jordy Burke said he was expecting Ararat to be across-the-board strong, with their midfield leading the way.
"We're focusing heavily on our ball movement and looking to add plenty of pace to the contest," Burke said.
"Ben Janetski, Jasper Gunn and Bill Carberry will be big keys for us.
"We will look to run all day and work hard around the footy.
"It'll be a huge test against the benchmark in the competition."
