HORSHAM Saints will lead Wimmera A Grade netballers into this weekend’s King’s Birthday Long Weekend bye after claiming a strong win over Ararat on Saturday.

The Saints lead the competition by a game with just a round to go before the halfway point of the season after claiming a 79-49 goal win over Ararat.

Top five positions saw a change to the order when Nhill claimed a vital win over Minyip-Murtoa and climbed into fourth position, while Southern Mallee Giants claimed their second win of the season with a strong win over Warrack Eagles, 38-31.

In the battle of the second and third placed teams, Horsham proved too strong form Stawell to claim a 54-36 goal victory.

Horsham Saints made it seven wins from seven outings when they controlled their contest under the roof at St Brigid’s College against Ararat.

The Saints led 16-10 at quarter time and gradually extended its lead with each term to the final whistle.

Shooters Jorja Clode and Abby Hallam were in good touch under the ring to shoot 44 and 35 goals respectively as they finished off the work of team-mates including Rory Doran who provided strong defence against the Ararat goalies.

For the Rats, Georgie Peel produced her best game for the season and with Jessica Taylor teamed well to set up scoring chances.

Nhill’s win over Minyip-Murtoa saw the Tigers grab and 10-goal lead at quarter time and after competitive second and third terms, pulled away from the Burras in the final term to claim a 50-25 goal win.
