Last minute change for cancer fundraiser
This year's Horsham Relay for Life event looked a little different as a last minute venue change was needed due to wet weather, but that didn't stop teams from coming together and completing the event.
Horsham chair Kinglesy Dalgleish said despite the setback, it was still a great night with around 150 to 200 people moving through the venue.
"It went a little differently than anticipated," he said.
Originally the event was supposed to run overnight from 4pm on Friday, with a closing ceremony at 10am on Saturday.
"It ended up being from 6pm to 10pm just on Friday and indoors," Mr Dalgleish said.
"We had to take the oval into consideration along with the health and wellbeing of our participants."
The Coughlin Park clubrooms became the venue for the event with tables set up in the middle to create a track for teams to walk around.
"We didn't want to cancel it so we phoned around to all the team captains to see if they were okay with us moving indoors," Mr Dalgleish said.
"It was a little more intimate in the smaller space.
"We're very appreciative of the teams being open to take on the last minute change."
Mr Dalgleish expressed his thanks to all local businesses who supported the event.
Highest fundraising team was Team Marco's Family and Friends with a total of $10,080 followed by highest fundraising school, Horsham Primary School, with $6875.
The event has so far raised a total of $25,223.
Since the Horsham event began in 2001, around $2 million has been raised for Cancer Council Victoria.
Best Baton went to St Brigid's College who became creative and used a Jerry Can.
Donations are still being accepted until November.
Around 133 people are diagnosed with cancer in the greater Horsham region each year, and Relay For Life raises funds for vital research, prevention and support services.
