Landholders advised of proposed wind farm
Cubico, the company pushing to construct a new wind farm in the Mallee, has contacted residents living in the proposed project area to clarifying its plans for the site should it get the green light.
"You are receiving this letter because your property is located near the proposed project area," the letter read.
It further stated that the company was prioritising engaging with neighbours of the potential project site and was committed to working closely with them.
"The proposed Curyo Wind Farm is located within the Mallee region of rural Victoria on farmland in Curyo," explained the letter.
The project proposed is only in its early stages, with only the assessment for feasibility having been completed.
The company is now preparing to complete environmental, social and technical studies.
"These studies will help inform the project's referral to the Minister for Planning, ensuring the development aligns with community expectations and regulatory standards," the letter read.
"Subject to approval, the project has the potential to generate up to 1000MW of clean, renewable energy and comprise of a number of carefully placed wind turbines and a co-located battery."
Briefing sessions for neighbours to the proposed project and site have been booked online to enable locals to gather more information and share their thoughts.
Locals have been quick to express their annoyance at the project, replying to an anonymous post on the Hopetoun Community page on Facebook, which shared the letter publicly.
Rainbow resident Norelle Eckermann blamed the Victorian Government for selling everyone out.
"Imagine the money they are making from all this so they can waste it on city projects," Ms Eckermann wrote, while Leon Huf, of Hopetoun commented: "Keep that rubbish away from our area."
David and Dianne Anderson added: "You might end up with plenty of power to operate your frying pan but if you destroy agriculture to achieve this you won't have anything put in it!"
