Taylors Lake’s over-40s hit the field to kick off the club’s 80th anniversary celebrations. From past players to juniors, several generations of Lakes came together for a special preseason Legends match. Overseeing the action was club president Stuart Hall.

Helping make the game possible were several juniors to help fill the numbers, as well as an umpiring crew, led by 2016 Taylors Lake Reserves premiership player Frank Marklew.

Club president Stuart Hall, who also took part in the game, said it was a great way to help launch the club’s 80th year.

“The main reason for the game is that the club is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year,” he said.

“One of the ladies from the social committee felt it would be a good environment for people to get interested in the club again in such a historic year.”

Taylors Lake will officially celebrate the anniversary on May 2, an achievement which the president said the club is very proud of.

“We’re celebrating the 80th anniversary on May 2, where we will play a home game against Pimpinio.

“That also happens to be the 10th anniversary of the 2016 Reserves Premiership, which we will celebrate at halftime, before holding a black-tie event at the Maydale Pavilion in the evening.

“There are many people who have got some connection to the club, and it’s provided an opportunity for a lot of people to have an outlet,” Hall said.

“We’re very proud of getting to 80 years, especially being on the brink coming out of COVID, but we’re back on track and got people wanting to play for us.”
