Lakers host Cougars
Taylors Lake’s senior football side will aim to end their winless start to the 2026 season as they host Kaniva Leeor United.
Despite being within reach of their opposition in the later stages of their opening four games, the Lakers have fallen short.
While their competitive form will give them hope again, they face a Kaniva Leeor side that enters Saturday on a four-game winning streak.
The Cougars backed up their 41-point victory over Laharum with a three-goal win over an improved Kalkee side in round five.
But having lost to the Lakers early in 2025 before being pushed most of the game at Dock Lake later in the year, Cougars co-coach Jonno Hicks expects another tough encounter.
“They look like they're recruited really well over the summer, and last year they pushed us really hard down there,” he said.
“It was a really tough game for us late in the year when we were hitting form, so I think it's a real danger game for us.”
Although the Cougars coach admits his side was lacking in execution last round, he was happy with their work rate, something they will need to bring in potentially challenging conditions on Saturday.
“It’s looking like it could be wet on Saturday,” Hicks said.
“Those games are always a challenge; it's more about who wants it more.
“We have to make sure we do everything right this week, bring our best footy to Taylors in an away game, and hopefully come away with a win.”
