The Laharum Demons won three games in 2022 and with Glenn Doyle returning in his 2nd year as coach, the focus is to continue to develop what will be a young side in their centenary year.
“We are rebuilding from a tough period with Covid like everyone else. We are bringing in good characters and young people invested in the club to see it progress,” Doyle said.
“We have brought in a couple of young guys which will bring good character and football. Ryan Thomas from Horsham, Michael Lloyd, Josh Taylor and Cody Richards. My son, John is also coming from Melbourne.”
“We are looking at a demographic of players in their early 20’s that can play for the club for a long period of time that will come through together to enjoy the tough and the good times,” Doyle added.
Asked what a pass mark would be for the season, Doyle said.
“That will be up to the playing group. We have retained a lot of players and 60-70% of the senior side will be made up of players under 23 years of age.
Are they learning and improving and enjoying their football? If those things occur, then we are creating the right environment and we will see what comes from that.”
On field, the club wants to improve on defensive aspects as they conceded far too many goals in consecutive fashion according to Doyle.
“We want to be harder to score against, first and foremost. We want to tighten up defensively and be a little stronger around the ball.”
“Our style of play will be transition and move the ball regularly though the ground and taking our opportunities when they come,” he added.
The Demons are celebrating their centenary this year and have emphasised building to set the club up for not only the near future, but the next 100 years.
The club will be having a celebratory weekend on the 24th of June after their game with Natimuk and a lot of work is being done behind the scenes. Asked about the celebrations, Doyle said.
“The club is really entering celebration mode. A lot of work is being done by the board and committee. We want to see a lot of people returning to the club this year within the community and surrounding areas that have moved through the club. We have players returning from overseas and we are looking forward to that.”
“I feel really grateful with the opportunity to coach the club in its 100th year,” Doyle concluded.
Laharum open their season away from home at Noradjuha Quantong.
