Laharum continue dominant start
Laharum women’s senior football side recorded their third-straight win, defeating Minyip Murtoa in round four of the Wimmera Football Netball League.
Final score was Laharum 7.11 (53) to Minyp Murtoa 4.1 (25).
The Demons entered the first break with a tight 9-6 lead before a dominant second quarter saw Laharum enter half-time up 26-7.
Laharum maintained control for the remainder of the game but struggled to put the Burras to bed.
For Laharum, Violet McGennisken and Catherine O’Dea were among the best players, while Ashlee Ison and Madison Churchill stood out for Minyip Murtoa.
Tarah Bond led all scorers with five goals for the Demons, while youngster Rory Starick booted two for the Burras.
Bond leads the league in goals with nine for the season.
Heading into the game, Laharum coach Rod Hogan said confidence and clean disposals were the focus for the group.
“We just need to focus on what we need to work on, including our structure and trying to get the team to dispose of the ball better and be confident in what they do,” Hogan said.
While Hogan said he was happy with the performance considering the side’s numerous unavailabilities, he acknowledged that the team had some elements to work on.
“We did make some mistakes, including on the defensive end,” Hogan said.
“But I’m happy with the performance, the girls continue to improve.”
Similar to Laharum, Minyip Murtoa was marred by unavailability.
Many players, including coach Madeleine Huggins, fell ill in the lead-up to the clash.
Amidst the victory for Laharum, Jessica Cannane injured her calf and is expected to now miss multiple weeks.
