SATURDAY’s golf was the final sponsored event monthly medal by Naylor Agencies for the season.
28 men participated in the monthly medal and 10 ladies competed in their weeekly stableford event.
Gary Krahe was the winner of the men with a good under par score of 81-10-71 net.
Gary, I believe is one of the most consistent players at our club who, constantly year after year for the last 30 plus years has had a handicap range of 6-10.
To play a low mark handicap for that period of time is an excellent achievement. Congratulations.
Runner-up to Gary was Stan Ryan 97-25-72 who got the runner-up trophy on a countback from Lachie Stewart also on 72 net. Other good scores were Tubby Drendel and Chris Campbell both 73 net.
Nearest the pin second shot ninth hole was Matt Richardson. Nearest on the fifth hole was Kim Stepney and Leonie Atkin, on the seventh was Derek Picken and Mary Barber and on the 13th hole was Ash Purdue (bonus) and Corinne Heintze.
The mens event next week is a stableford event for both men and women.
The ladies winner with a great score of 38 points was Casey Phelan (11 hcp) followed by Leonie Atkin (12) with 34 points.
Thursday’s Royal Mail Hotel Meal Run was again a very good field with 26 players. The first nine hole was won by Greg Pearson (evening golfers) with a great 20 stableford points, followed by Ash Purdue and Peter Schilling on 19 points each.
The back nine holes was won by Gary Krahe with 19 points and Jake Cheney on 18 points (on a countback) from his father Mick Cheney. 18 points was also achieved by Nick Pietsch and Stan Ryan.
The overall 18 hole winner was Peter Schilling with 37 points followed by Gary Krahe on 35 points.
Nearest the pin on the fifth hole was Jake Jess with no-one on the seventh or 13th.
Joke of the week
Mick and Leonie Cheney had been shopping recently at Central Square in Ballarat for a few hours when Leonie suddently realised that Michael had disappeared.
Leonie called Michael and asked, “where have you gone?” Mick said, “darling, you know that jewellery shop where we spotted that beautiful necklace that you loved and we didn’t have the money at that time to buy it but I said, honey that will be yours one day.”
Leonie was excited, he’s finally getting it she thought.
“Yes, I do remember it sweetie,” she said.
“Well”, Mick said, “I am at the menswear shop next door to it.”
