After starting their season with a win, Kalkee’s senior football side will aim to knock off 2025 finals side Pimpinio in round three of the Horsham District Football Netball League.
Playing at Pimpinio Recreation Reserve this Sunday, April 26, the Kees showed they could be a finals contender after defeating Taylors Lake 126-91 in round two, highlighted by recruit Tanner Smith’s 11 goals.
Conversely, Pimpinio will aim to bounce back from their 106-64 loss to Laharum, having comprehensively defeated Edenhope Apsley in round one.
With both teams demonstrating impressive pace in their respective victories, Kalkee coach Clint Burdett expects an even matchup between the sides.
“I think that they’re (Pimpinio) similar to us, in both size and ball movement,” he said.
“I'm looking forward to it, and it will be a good early challenge for us.
“I don’t think there will be any easy games for us anyway.
“So it's going to be a tester, and it will show where we're at and probably show where they're at too, because I reckon we'll be very similar on the ladder and with how we play.”
While Smith looms as a danger man up forward for the side, Kalkee will need to minimise their mistakes against a proven Tigers team, something the Kees coach identified as something the Lakers capitalised on in round two.
“We were a little bit rusty with our skills,” Burdett said.
“Taylors Lake capitalised on our mistakes and were able to move the footy from one end to the other a little bit easier than what we would have liked.
“But we can see our structure that we've been working on, it definitely worked at times, and it failed at times, but that's what training is for, and we will continue to build on that.”
