Kaniva Leeor set for Bombers challenge
Kaniva Leeor return to action this Saturday in men’s senior football when they face Noradjuha Quantong in round 11 of the Horsham District Football Netball League.
The Cougars had a round 10 bye and are coming into Saturday’s game with a 4-5 record, with a chance to make a finals push.
But they go against an undefeated Bombers team who continue to prove they are the competition’s standout, dismantling the Swifts 162-18 in their most recent game.
Jonno Hicks, coach of Kaniva, says the aim will be to slow down the Bombers as much as possible.
“We're up for a seriously tough challenge this week,” Hicks said.
“Obviously, they (Noradjuha Quantong) score really heavily, they move the ball really well and they play really fast football.
“So if we can win it at the goal face, get our hands on the contested footy and try to slow them down at all costs.
“We'll have to be really on our defensive game on the weekend to try and make it a complete competitive effort.”
Noradjuha Quantong enter the clash as heavy favourites, but a home-ground advantage will give Kaniva a boost, with their previous home game being their best game of the season – a 143-54 win over Pimpinio.
Hicks said the break had the playing group refreshed and ready after suffering a tight 86-75 loss to the Swifts in round nine.
“A disappointing result for us against Stawell, and a game where we had our chances but let it slide,” Hicks said.
“It was good to have a bye and really focus on some stuff we think we can improve on.
“We’ve made a real kind of good issue of trying to improve and challenge those top sides, so this is the biggest test we're going to get, and it'll be a really good indication of where we are at as a group moving forward.”
