A Grade
The A grade team had a big game on their hands playing the minor premiers from 2022 but were definitely up for the challenge and were going to do everything they could to make it hard for their opponents.
They began the game strongly and were able to make the most of some turnovers which gave them a slight lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was a very even contest. Some opportunities went begging with a few silly mistakes but JR were able to edge ahead to go into halftime five goals ahead.
The conditions began to play a big part, with the girls starting to feel the effects of the heat in the second half.
With that, their decision making wasn’t where it needed to be as they watched Kalkee take advantage and get quite a run on.
It was very hard to stop the momentum and JR found themselves seven goals down by the end of the third quarter.
With some fresh legs in Macey Laverty coming into the centre, JR was not going to lie down.
They settled and rallied hard in the last quarter but, again, had opportunities they just couldn’t convert.
A great effort in very trying conditions and lots of positives to come out of the game.

Awards: Megan Werner received the $50 Martian Rural voucher for a dominant display setting up the attacking end, while her connection with Hannah McIllree saw Hannah receive the Petsch Sweat Towel. Hannah shot some beautiful goals with great consistency shooting at 75 per cent.B Grade
The B grade were always going to be in for a tough day against a well-oiled outfit in Kalkee, who won the premiership last year, and from the very first whistle they were switched on.
Our girls looked very nervous and a bit rattled but once they settled they were able to find the ball and score some good goals.
They showed some great fight, chasing loose balls and getting some great hands on the ball, but the experience in Kalkee shone through and once they got going they were very hard to stop.
The JR girls kept going until the very end and, again, the hotter conditions compared to the week before were very trying.
Kalkee were a very strong unit and our girls should not be discouraged by this as they produced some great netball at times and, being a very new side themselves, they will only get better.

Awards: Ebony Spokes received the Bow Bakery voucher and Macey Laverty the Aldo’s Kitchen Cheeseboard for their consistent play all week.
C Grade
It was very warm conditions on the courts for the girls this week, but they all played well with some great shooting from Lucy Robinson and Ayla Roberts throughout the games.
Great defence work from Sophie and Lucy Thomas, Chantelle Fisher, Sami Walker and Erin Preston put a lot of pressure on Kalkee.
Final score: Jeparit Rainbow 20, Kalkee 53
Under 17
It was a good start to the season for the U17 girls.
Clarissa Bigham showed good work in defence, Shekinah Hurlstone driving strong in Centre, and good shooting by both goalies.
Kalkee came out stronger in the second half of the game, and though the girls pushed hard they struggled against the well-oiled Kalkee machine.
Final score: Jeparit Rainbow 23, Kalkee 52
Awards: The Marra Ag water bottle was awarded to Clarissa Bigham and the Petsch Sweat Towel to Shekinah Hurlstone.
Under 15
The girls had a bit of a slow start but soon picked up their game and had Kalkee running for their money
Phoebe Bigham and Maggie Fisher worked really well in the ring with many goals, likewise the defence side had many turnovers and were able to turn some of them into goals.
Final score: Jeparit Rainbow 26, Kalkee 55
Awards: The Wimmera Mallee Waste blanket was awarded to Phoebe Bigham, and the $10 Warrack Electrical voucher to Maggie Fisher.
Under 13
The girls got off to a good start and were able to stay with Kalkee for most of the first half.
They had definitely put into play some things they had done at training and their passing improved as the game moved on.
After some changes in the third quarter it took the girls a little while to adjust, but they found some good space and got some good touches to stay even with Kalkee this quarter.
The final quarter saw Kalkee come out firing and it was hard for our girls to stop, but to their credit they never gave up and kept going until the final whistle.
Final score: Jeparit Rainbow 13, Kalkee 31
The awards this week went to Taylor Fisher who showed some great determination and took some great intercepts, receiving the Presh voucher, and Giselle Clugston who played a very consistent game in the goals and also worked hard to turn the ball over, receiving the Ian’s IGA $10 voucher.
