Kalkee set to continue hot start
Kalkee’s senior football side will look to go from strength to strength this Saturday, May 2, as they go against Rupanyup in round four of the Horsham District Football Netball League.
The Kees backed up their round win over Taylors Lake with a 120-42 victory over Pimpinio, where they kicked 14 second-half goals.
Tanner Smith’s inclusion in the 2026 team has reaped instant rewards for Kalkee, with the forward kicking 21 goals across the two games.
But their midfield and defence have also been impressive, nullifying a Tigers outfit that got the better of them in the first half in round three.
Kalkee coach Clint Burdett said his team will enter Saturday with confidence following their performance, but expects the Panthers to come out strong.
“We obviously had a really good second half, and we'll get a lot of confidence from that going into this week,” he said.
“We might have a couple of injuries and a few small bodies with the six-day turnaround, so we will have a light week on the track to be right for it.
“But I don't think any game’s a certainty and I reckon they'll give us a good run for our money too.”
Rupanyup bounced back from their opening round loss to Natimuk United to defeat Edenhope Apsley in round two, before leading Laharum for most of the game in their round three loss.
With recruits like Xavier Pumpa and Sam Kamstra already providing a strong impact early in the season and coach Cam Weston returning to action, the Panthers will fancy their chances against the in-form Kees.
