Kalkee end Natimuk win streak
Kalkee recorded their second win of the season as they defeated Natimuk on Saturday in round nine of men’s senior football in the Horsham District Football Netball League.
The final score was Kalkee 10.9 (69) to Natimuk 5.5 (35).
Kalkee fired out of the gate to head into the first break up 35-1, aided by some fortunate wind.
But Natimuk were able to contain the home side in the middle quarters, with Kalkee up 43-26 at three-quarter-time, before a strong final term consolidated Kalkee’s victory.
Andy Devereaux, coach of Kalkee, said he was pleased with how the side started and finished the game.
“Kicking with the wind helped us in the first and we were able to capitalise on some really nice attacking footy,” Deveareaux said.
“Credit to Natimuk, who really took their opportunities in the second with some nice goals from tough angles.
“They (Natimuk) also chucked a couple behind the footy in the third, which really stifled us.
“A tactical spray from me at three-quarter-time must have resonated with the boys because they came out with the intent we had in the first and it paid dividends.”
Best players for Kalkee were Patrick Mills and Karl Campbell, while best for Natimuk were Oscar Miller and Adam Coutts.
Ben Lawson led Kalkee with three goals, while Liam Klowss kicked two for the visitors.
Devereaux praised Karl Campbell and Bradie Thomas for delivering at key moments for the side.
“We swung Karl Campbell into the middle to start the last because he was having a massive game for us,” Devereaux said.
“He just kept his head over the footy all day and won some really crucial contests for us.
“Bradie Thomas also had a really good game playing in that high half-forward role.”
“His delivery by foot in the windy conditions definitely gave us the best looks when going forward.”
Despite the loss ending Natimuk’s three-game winning streak, they remain in seventh on the ladder while Kalkee stay in 10th.
