Saturday was Warracknabeal Racecourse's last meet for the year and what a day it was, with the Bet 365 Sheep Hills Cup scooped up by the first female jockey in 20 year.
Horsham galloper Mulga Lil lead the field, with Mt Gambier's Goliotus tracking her all the way in second place.
As the pace increased, Goliotus tested Mulga Lil, moving up at the 400 metre mark and, on entering the straight, proving too strong.
Goliotus - a six-year-old gelding trained by owner and breeder Ricky Bruhn - started on $5 and won by 1¼ lengths from Stawell galloper, Man From Uncle, who was on the quick backup from an unplaced run in Donald last Tuesday.
In third place was the $3 favourite, Florida Dream, while Mulga Lil weakened to finished eighth.
Goliotus' win makes rider Melissa Julius the first female jockey to win the Cup since Christine Puls on Poetic Walk in 2003.
Julius rode a winning double on Saturday, the other being on Andrew Bobbin-trained Verbosity in the Pony Xpress 1000 metre Maiden.
The next scheduled meeting at the Warracknabeal Racecourse is on Easter Saturday next year.
