JR tame the Pimpinio Tigers

Last Saturday, Jeparit Rainbow Football Netball Club journeyed to Pimpinio to play on a much improved oval, compared to several years ago.
The junior teams found it hard going against the much higher ranked teams, while the Reserves took the game right up to their third placed opponents.
The Seniors' game saw some good football from both teams, with Jeparit Rainbow’s class leading to a solid win against a Pimpinio team who are having their best season for many years.
SENIORS:
The weekly theme of constant changes to the team continued this week, with Nick Yarran, Javaad Anderson, Braxton Ah Mat, Jakob Cocks, Antonia James and Dean Perkins missing.
Into the team came Will Hutchinson, Matt Synoradski, Tom Long, Jordan Leach, Phoenix Oakley and young Will Fisher who came up from the U17’s for his first Seniors game.
Kicking to the highway end, against the breeze, Jeparit Rainbow had the best of the first quarter.
Will Hutchinson played at full forward and was soon proving a problem for the Pimpinio defence, with his two goals in the first quarter taking his team to a 19-point lead at quarter time.
The second quarter saw some good passages of play from both teams.
The Jeparit Rainbow players played on at every opportunity and used attacking handball to move the ball quickly.
Matt Thomas had a tough battle in the ruck against the very experienced Reece McNally - a great learning experience for Matt.
A goal after the siren to Tom Clarke increased Jeparit Rainbow’s lead to 32 points.
The third quarter saw Pimpinio push hard as they kicked with the breeze.
Two more goals to Tom Clarke kept Jeparit Rainbow in front by 20 points at three quarter time.
The last quarter saw Pimpinio kick two early goals before Jeparit Rainbow finished strongly, kicking the last three goals of the game to win by 34-points.
This was a solid win by an understrength team, but there were good contributions by many players.
Over the last few games, you can see Xavier Oakley’s form building up, and on Saturday he was the best player on the ground with his strong marking and attacking running plus good ball use. He even won some ruck contests.
Tom Clarke won lots of the ball to go with his three goals, while Trent Burgoyne is making a bigger contribution with every game he plays as he adjusts to the team.
Will Hutchinson finished with five goals, with his strong marking on the lead a highlight. He worked well together with Ash Clugston, four goals.
Nathan Cocks has fitted well back into the team, giving good run out of defence, and Tom Long played well in the midfield.
Young Will Fisher was not overawed in his first Seniors game. while Phoenix Oakley played his role and contributed to the team's win.
Final score: Pimpinio 10.9.69, JR 15.13.103
RESERVES:
This was a more even game than the 45-point final margin suggests, as Jeparit Rainbow took the game right up to their opponents.
Thanks to Pimpinio for lending the team two players.
Ex-Warracknabeal Eagles player Scott Adams played a great game in the ruck as he helped out on the day.
Rory O’Halloran and Liam Preston play great football each week, winning one on one contests and driving the ball forward.
Jono Dai and Adam Schulz provide good focal points up forward, while Bailey Clark made a welcome return to the team as he provided drive from the midfield.
Mention must be made of Glenn Treverton, who has fitted into the team despite never having played football before. He made a good contribution in this game, winning the ball on several occasions.

UNDER 17’s:
The game was over early in the second quarter, with the mercy rule applied, as the boys were no match for their undefeated opponents.
After that the teams mixed up their players and an enjoyable game was played out.
Zander Eckermann and Caleb Tregenza played some good football this week, and Seamus Clarke tried hard around the ground.
Bronti Effrett, Josh Schultz and Marcel Badua are three boys who turn up every week and play their hearts out for the team.
Final score: Pimpinio 12.0.72, JR 0 (Mercy-ruled)
UNDER 14’s:
An even team effort was not reflected on the scoreboard, as the boys failed to kick a goal in a 39-point loss.
Ryder Gould, Lenny Weir, Dustin Eckermann and Caleb Heinrich are four boys who have been amongst the best players each week.
Ryder and Lenny have won lots of the ball, while Dustin and Caleb have been strong in the back line.
This week, Kane Bastin and Liam Clarke also stood out.
