Jodie Pretlove is a candidate for the West Wimmera Shire Council in the 2024 election
I have always been a resident of West Wimmera Shire, where I live with my husband Craig on our family farm at Minimay.
I have been fortunate to be a councillor for the past eight years and for six of those years I was Elected Mayor or Deputy Mayor.
During this time I have gained invaluable insights and experience, as well as forming strong networks and relationships within the government sector.
For me, it is the connection with the residents, listening and learning what is important to them, and what the community needs are, that drives me to support change and progress in our Shire.
A significant component of our budget continually goes into the ongoing maintenance of our road network. We must continue to aim for full access to up-to-date technology and digital connectivity across the Shire.
Our Shire works closely with our local communities and supports our local volunteer groups to secure grants and access funding to support events, programs and maintaining and updating infrastructure.
To ensure our Shire is vibrant and sustainable, we need to strategically plan for opportunities that support growth, investment, employment and education. We must continue to support agriculture/diversity/production and new and existing business. This all has positive flow on effects for our communities and towns.
To meet the core needs of our residents, we need successful development whilst remaining viable. All residents need stable and accessible health services and adequate infrastructure in our towns.
I am proud of the forward and progressive direction Council has taken.
We need to work together, adapt, source and provide opportunities, and commit to building strong and resilient communities. West Wimmera needs to be a place where people want to live, have activities they want to engage in, feel supported and most importantly can see a bright future.
