Jeparit to receive 5G
Jeparit’s Telstra users are facing four days of disruption this week as Telstra upgrades its local mobile base station to bring 5G coverage to the area.
The site will remain offline from Tuesday February 11 until tomorrow, Friday February 14, Telstra expecting service restoration by the end of Valentine's Day.
The upgrade promises increased capacity, consistent speeds, smoother streaming and shorter download times.
The temporary disruptions of Telstra mobile services have been notified to customers in text message.
These disruptions are not affecting landline services, NBN internet or mobile coverage from other providers.
The 5G roll-out will also enhance the existing 4G performance in Jeparit.
Telstra regional general manager for northern and western Victoria Steve Tinker said upgrading was essential for faster connectivity.
“We know how important mobile connectivity is for Australians, whether you’re in the city or the country,” Mr Tinker said.
“Bringing 5G to the area is a major mobile milestone.
“Some disruption is required while the upgrade is under way but we’re only switching off the site when we need to and will have it back online and working better than ever as quickly as possible.”
During the upgrade Telstra customers can activate 'Wi-Fi calling' on their phones to make and receive calls and texts via Wi-Fi.
This free setting is available on most popular mobile devices.
Telstra has also encouraged businesses to speak with their banks about connecting their EFTPOS terminals to their NBN or Wi-Fi connection to prevent transaction delays.
