Jeparit NYE gig draws decent crowd
Jeparit’s Town Advisory Committee brought live music to the caravan park precinct on New Year’s Eve, drawing a sizeable crowd to the town’s riverside deck.
Committee president Jason Hutson said the crowd turned out in strong numbers for the free community night.
“I reckon there were about 150 people,” he said.
The committee funded the band to play on the deck, a venue built only a couple of years ago, and used the space to keep the celebration simple, social and family-friendly.
“So it went pretty good,” Mr Hutson said.
He said the event attracted visitors from nearby towns, including Nhill, Warracknabeal and Rainbow, helping Jeparit businesses during the holiday period and showing the deck’s potential as a regular community hub.
Mr Hutson said the night’s standout moments were the turnout and the entertainment.
“Probably the number of people there and the band and that were pretty good,” he said.
Rather than running formal activities, attendees set up picnic-style groups, bringing platters and snacks to share while they watched the performance and took in the outlook over the river.
The committee also sourced Chris and Ann’s Quick Bites food van from Dimboola for the event.
With another successful year behind them, the committee now wants to keep building the event into a fixture on the local calendar.
“We’re hoping to do it over the next, like, have an ongoing sort of thing,” Mr Hutson said.
The committee received very positive feedback from Jeparit Supermarket and Cafe after the gig, noting that the event's patrons provided great support.
