Jeparit hosts Golden Putter

JEPARIT Golf Club hosted their 4BBB Golden Putter event on Friday as part of their tournament with a very good-sized field of 56 players coming to play from Dimboola, Stawell, Wallaloo, Rainbow, Hopetoun, Horsham, Warracknabeal and Nhill.
The teams were sent off by Captain Mel Wagener and her very able assistant Rick Day. Last year at this event it was extremely wet and when the rain arrived this time the club was a bit concerned but then it cleared up and the golfing gods smiled upon us.
The men’s winning pair were Mark “Newky” Newcombe, although I think his nickname should be “The Strategist” and Paul “Dinga” Bell, that’s right folks the scribe here finally won something at the right end! Having received several awards at the tail end of the field many a time. The team had a magnificent 46 points.
The Men’s Runners Up were, Joel Schultz and Wayne “Butch” Schultz on a very creditable 45 points. Third place went to Glen Treverton and Tony “The Pres” Foley on 43 points. Fourth place was tightly contested with four pairs on 41 points and went to Peter Frecker and Glen Ross on a countback.
Men’s best nine out went to Dehne Charry and Dennis “Kennel” Kavanagh while the best 9 holes in went to Joel and Wayne Schultz. Men’s nearest the pins went to, Tim Brendler on the third, Tony Foley on the fifth, Mark Edelsten on the 12th and Bryan Dufty on the 15th. Longest and straightest drive went to Brendon “Jacko” Etherton. The Archie Bell Award for, “I’ve had a dog of a day” went to Ross Howlet and Ron Norton.
The ladies winning pair was also on 46 points. Beth Preston and Maree Heenan, who also picked up the best nine out and the best nine holes in! Great going Ladies.
The ladies runners up were Shirley Starbuck and Viv Mitchell on 42 points and third place went to Carolyn Morcom and Vicki Hinkley on 39 points.
Closely followed for fourth on 38 points by Helen Bulke and Margory Rich. Ladies nearest the pins went to, Shirley Starbuck on the third, Maree Heenan on the fifth, Jenny Smith on the 12th and Shirley Starbuck struck again on the 15th. Longest and straightest drive went to Vicki Hinkley.
The Archie Award for the ladies went to Jenny Smith and Rae Bound. The spinning wheel raffle raised $500 for the club and there must have been at least 20 prizes, all donated.

August 6th & 7th
The Club had an Ambrose day on Sunday 6th with a small turnout but had a lot of fun. The only thing players wanted to tell me was that the President and Captain won the Archie Bell award for “I’ve had a dog of a day”!
Some of our members teamed up with Rainbow and won the Ambrose event held at Rainbow on Sunday being Glen Treverton, Mickey Millar and Shaun Roberts – we may have to rename them the same as the football team, The Storm!
Monday August 7th the Jeparit Golf Club hosted the Wimmera Vets with a great field of 38 players and some very good scores. The Winners were A Grade Men on 41 points, Daryl Watson and B Grade Men on 37 points, Rex Koning. With the Ladies Winner being Chris Campbell. Many other prizes were given out.
