Jeparit egg hunt draws decent crowd
The Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum's first Easter Egg Hunt drew about 65 people on Easter Sunday, delivering a strong turnout for a debut community event aimed at families and young children.
The successful trial brought together locals and visitors from outside the district, with organisers now seeing it as a positive step toward future fundraising and family events at the museum.
Event organiser Natalia Aguirre said the response exceeded expectations for a first-time event.
"It was amazing, and it was very successful," she said.
She said the museum organised the event as a trial, to create a positive community gathering while also supporting the museum through fundraising.
"It was like a trial kind of thing," she said.
"We presented it to the committee to start something to bring the community together and have some fundraising events for the museum."
Ms Aguirre said the event attracted both local families and visitors already in town for the fishing competition.
"There are some participants from outside as well," she said.
"There were people from Rainbow, Dimboola and some families who came for the Jeparit Fishing Comp."
She said support from the Angling Club helped promote the event and attract additional families.
The event featured three sessions throughout the day, with each session giving children the chance to hunt for eggs, win prizes, and take part in extra activities.
Ms Aguirre said the atmosphere and the children's excitement stood out as the highlight.
"The kids' beautiful faces, and the happiness," she said.
"We had a lot of activities, and the kids loved it."
She said the Easter Bunny also made an appearance during each session, adding to the excitement for children and families.
Ms Aguirre thanked the volunteers and the Angling Club for their efforts in making the day run smoothly and helping advertise the event.
"I am thankful to the volunteers; they did a great job," she said.
After the strong turnout and positive response, the museum is considering organising similar events in the future as it looks to build on the success of its first Easter celebration.
