Jed Herman's latest success came at the 11th annual World Scooter Championships, less than a year after he returned to the sport after being sidelined by, not one, but two serious injuries.
Jed, now 17, started scooter riding as a child, and spent hours learning and practising new tricks at Horsham Skate Park.
"As I got older I realised how much I enjoyed it, and seeing my mates practise and nail their tricks, inspired me to practise harder to nail mine," he said.
After finishing sixth in the men's open division at the national championships earlier in the year, Jed was invited to attend the world championships alongside his fellow top-10-ranked Australian champions.
It wasn't a smooth run for Jed, however, who broke his left leg twice in 2021-22.
"I broke my leg in a practise competition, and later broke it again during a competition in Horsham," he said.
Although taking some time for his confidence to bounce back post-injuries meant Jed returned to riding his scooter less than a year ago, he impressed at the championships to secure a world ranking of 23 in the men's open division.
"The championships were a great event," he said.
"I got to meet people from around the world and see the pros perform their tricks."
Competitors were ranked on trick difficulty, consistency, diversity, style and park usage, with Jed saying that he was happy with his result.
"The run I performed was better than expected," he said.
"I'm over the moon."
