Issi rocks Warracknabeal
Rock ’n’ roll entertainer Issi Dye returned to the Warracknabeal Town Hall on Friday, March 20, delivering a night of 1950s and 1960s classics to an enthusiastic crowd.
Mr Dye said the show was a success and thanked local organisers for helping make the evening possible.
“Firstly, I wanted to thank Julie and all the volunteers for helping to make it such a successful and fun evening for me,” he said.
He said the event drew about 100 people, although competing events in town may have affected attendance.
“We could’ve had a few more people that we would’ve liked to have had, a full house, but there were a few other things on in the township,” he said.
“Whenever you’re in a small town, and you have other things on the same night, it’s very difficult, but in saying that, the ones who came had a great time and we had lots of dancing.”
Mr Dye said audience members even travelled from Horsham to enjoy the performance.
“There would’ve been probably around about 100 people came, maybe a few less,” he said.
The show took the audience on a journey through the story of rock ’n’ roll, featuring songs made famous by artists including Johnny O’Keefe, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and Johnny Cash.
“We put together the story of rock ’n’ roll, so I was doing all different genres of the ’50s and ’60s music,” he said.
“The idea of the show was to bring people out to enjoy the music of the ’50s and ’60s, and the ones who came certainly did that.”
Mr Dye said he hoped to return to Warracknabeal for another performance, likely next year.
“I think it’ll be more like next year, but Julie and I will be talking about that and obviously trying to bring people out again for another great night,” he said.
He also praised the Warracknabeal Town Hall as a venue for live music.
“The town hall is a beautiful historic place and lends itself to the way that the layout of the hall is excellent for music,” he said.
During his visit, Mr Dye also spent time exploring the town, visiting shops, op shops, restaurants and the local market.
“All in all, it’s a beautiful place, Warracknabeal, with a great history, and we enjoyed our time in Warracknabeal,” he said.
He said he looked forward to visiting again.
