Isla Connell had never sat on a horse before the summer holidays – now she can't wait to get back into the saddle.
Isla was one of dozens who attended children's riding camps at Horsham's Riverside Equestrian Centre and she was thrilled with her progress.
"I'm feeling very happy and excited," the seven-year-old said.
"I've learned a tonne of horse-handling techniques, like you always have to have a helmet on when you're near the horse and while riding, and you have to put your hand on it when you're going back so it knows that you're going backwards."
Isla's mother Chloe Connell said she was impressed by the centre's efforts.
"These guys cater for everyone: all ages," Ms Connell said. "Even if they're first-time riders, they're really patient with getting the kids to gain confidence to jump on and ride.
"Everyone here is professional – very knowledgeable. The children are now able to brush the horses. They learned how to remove the covers, remount, clean their feet and do everything else."
Ms Connell said Isla yelled with delight when they first arrived at the camp.
"She had no idea until we pulled in," she said. "She screamed when she was brought to the camp because she loves animals."
Riverside Equestrian Centre hosted its half-day camps for children of varying skill levels.
"The activities on the obstacle course are a lot of fun for the kids and a terrific educational day out for them," Ms Connell said.
Isla is already looking forward to a return visit.
"I've overcome my fear of horses and I can now ride a horse by myself, without assistance," she said proudly.
And Mum might have to go along for the ride.
"She mainly does gymnastics and a bit of swimming but now she's horse-mad," Ms Connell said.
