Investing in community groups
Round two of the Community Strengthening Grants is back, and this time the West Wimmera Shire Council has awarded funding to five community groups.

The five community groups include Harrow Mechanics Institute, Kaniva Group of Fire Brigades CFA, Dergholm and District Soldiers Memorial Hall, Apsley Golf Club, and Kaniva CFA Brigade.
Dergholm & District Soldiers’ Memorial Hall secretary Andrea Polderman said the $5000 in funding would give the hall a new lease on life.
“It’s going to be a big help to us,” she said.
"We really have to work to get money through fundraising, so this funding is really going to help with tidying up the hall for people to use.”
The funding will be used to repair water damage, eradicate mold, and install screen doors, ensuring the venue remains a welcoming space for birthday parties, community teas, and Australia Day celebrations.
Mayor Tim Meyer said the council was pleased to support community organisations through this funding program.
“These projects reflect the strong value and contribution of local groups, and this funding will help them deliver important upgrades and improvements,” Cr Meyer said.
The Community Strengthening Grants program encourages involvement in local initiatives and champions consistent leadership and upskilling, with funding occurring twice a year.
