WARRACK Eagles have rounded out its 2023 Wimmera Football League season preparations with an intraclub practice match at Anzac Park on Saturday.
The Eagles were set to play Horsham District based team Noradjuha-Quantong but was changed to an intraclub game when the Bombers were forced to withdraw through a player shortage.
Warrack Eagles coach Daniel Bell said two teams were put together and the team was able to play out four quarters in a good hit out for all players.
“It was a bit of a shame for Noradjuha-Quantong but we were were able to put together a couple of teams and had a good workout,” he said.
“We had around 36 players available and with about six Under 17 kids, we were able to rotate players throughout the match which was a good way to finish our preparations before our clash against the Saints in round one.
“We’ll have a lighter week on the track this week and then ramp up again in the lead up to round one.
“It’s a good week leading up to round one, everyone is excited and looking forward to what the new season bring,” he said.
New recruits Joe McKinnon, Nick Inglis, Tom James, Kayden Edwards and Connor Inkster played out the match and showed some promising signs of what supporters can expect this season.
Kyle Cheney produced a strong outing and will lead the charge with experienced partners Ryan McKenzie, Jacob Sobey, Jake Cheney and Riley Morrow who teamed well with younger team-mates who will play a key roles throughout the season.
Bell said the recruits fitted in well and will only benefit as the season progresses.
“We’re in a good position for the season. Our recruits were good on Saturday and we are all looking forward to how we match up against the other teams in the competition.”
