Inaugural Joey Cup a hit
Warracknabeal Racecourse was the grounds for a 'photo finish' horse race, with 1st Warracknabeal Scout Group's Joey's participating in their first Joey Cup in honour of Melbourne Cup day.
The inaugural hobby horse race saw five Joey's fight it out to the finish on the 50 metre track with Mack and his horse Bucky Ginger taking out the win.
George and his horse Supersonic Speed came in a very close second, followed by Mia and her horse Phar Lap in third.
Jackson and his horse Jack placed fourth followed closely by Braxton and his horse Uma.
Before racing, they first collected their horses from the stables and then paraded them around the small pen in front of family and friends.
From there, they then made their way to the race track.
Joey leader Ellie Perris said the Joey's had a lot of fun.
"They didn't get the day off of school because they had a Show day instead," she said.
"So they hear about the Melbourne Cup at school and they know the horse race."
"It's handy that Joey's meet on a Tuesday, so we could do something like this."
They first made a plan of their hobby horse and then designed their ideas.
"We also reviewed their work in between," she said.
From this activity, all Joey's were able to earn a special interest area badge in arts and literature.
"They earn the badge if they work on something for more than two hours," Ms Perris said.
She said it would be great to do it every year.
"Each of them received a gold medal with winner Mack and Bucky Ginger also receiving a trophy which will live at the Scout Hall."
