Those with a love of fairytales and a flair for the unique and dramatic will revel in this Saturday’s opening of The Forbidden Forest in Dimboola, with food, drinks, giftware and stalls on offer.
Owners Shane and Kylie Harman have purchased a house in town and said they have been welcomed and supported by the Dimboola community, whom they have grown to love.
With extensive artistic and musical backgrounds, the couple have spent the past 33 years raising their four children, renovating properties, travelling Australia with Mr Harman’s bands, and being involved in various music theatre productions including Sweeney Todd, Frankenstein and Mousetrap.
The couple love all things fairytale, and wanted to combine the human temptation to explore boundaries and the whimsy of venturing into the woods into a family business
“The Forbidden Forest is a fairytale-themed, tranquil retail setting offering a wide range of gifts, and providing a large assortment of treats via Hansel and Gretel’s Candy Haus and Black Forest Cafe,” Mr Harman said.
“Treats will include a candy and lolly shop, cakes, cookies, donuts, sundaes, thickshakes, coffee and more.
“Visitors will find gifts for all ages in the many stalls including Grandmother’s House, The Three Bears Cottage, The Witch’s Lair, Jack’s Farm, Geppetto’s Toy Shop, and our Christmas display.”
The business is set to become yet another drawcard for the growing town, and plans to host closed-door shopping nights in the lead up to the festive season.
With gift wrapping available, the couple welcome visitors bringing in their Christmas lists and ask for assistance with Kris Kringle ideas.
After Saturday’s grand opening, the store will be open Wednesday to Sunday from 11am-7pm.
