Iconic Grampians Tourist Road to reopen in time for long weekend
The picturesque road from Dunkeld to Halls Gap opens on January 24.
The iconic Grampians Road will reopen just in time for the Australia Day long weekend.
Forest Fire Management Victoria announced the road connecting Dunkeld to Halls Gap will be accessible from Friday, January 24, 2025, from 10am.
Tourists can now access several significant routes and sites, including Victoria Valley Road, Wonderland walks north of the Pinnacle, and Reeds Lookout.
"We're delighted to be welcoming people back to popular sites like the Pinnacle Walk, Reeds Lookout and other unaffected areas of the park," Incident Controller Les Vearing said.
"This reopening will be significant for these towns, including Halls Gap and Dunkeld, and they look forward to welcoming visitors this long weekend."
Mr Vearing said the decision was made by authorities following the bushfire response from FFMVic, CFA and other agencies to the Yarram Gap Road bushfire started in the Grampians National Park on December 17, 2024.
Visitors can access the Pinnacle Walk in the Wonderland Range from Halls Gap and Wonderland carpark.
However, all walking tracks south of the Pinnacle, including those in the Sundial area, remain closed.
Motorists should note that other park access roads and walking tracks in the fire-impacted area, including Silverband Road, Yarram Gap Road and Mt William Road, remain closed.
Regional Roads Victoria assessed and repaired around 45km of the Grampians Tourist Road following the fire.
Repairs will continue along the road over the coming months.
