Hundreds turn out for charity: WACK drives support for local kids
May Park was packed on Sunday as the annual Horsham Car and Bike Show, run by Wimmera Against Cancer in Kids, raised important funds for local families.
Hundreds of people came to see more than 200 cars and bikes, ranging from a Model A Ford to a Lamborghini.
Event organiser Simon Clark thanked the community for their strong support and pointed out that people traveled from Mount Gambier, Mildura, and Kyabram to take part.
“We’re absolutely thrilled. We had an amazing variety of vehicles,” he said.
“It was great to see the kids walking around with big smiles on their faces, as well as a lot of non-car people just enjoying the display.”
Mr Clark shared that a week before the event, he was concerned it might not proceed.
“After the rain we had last weekend, I was walking around May Park wondering if we would be able to use the venue,” he said.
“Fortunately, conditions improved and the park drained well. By 4pm on Sunday, there was no sign that hundreds had attended earlier.”
Mr Clark highlighted the Horsham Motorsports Club display and off-road champion Cam Grayson as an amazing community collaboration.
With more than $2000 raised from entries more than $3000 in donations, Mr Clark expressed appreciation for the community's generosity.
“The donation bag was very weighty,” he said.
“It was a gold coin entry, but plenty of people were dropping in $20 and $50 notes all day. We raised $5326.35 overall.
“It’s very generous, and every dollar helps local families."
WACK trustee Brendan McKinnon also thanked everyone and said he was delighted by the strong support for the show.
“It was such a beautiful day and a great turnout from the community,” he said.
“So many people turned up and dug deep. That’s what it's about; it’s all for the kids.”
