Could autonomous mowing be the future of Cox Industries?
An engineer and inventor, Owen Cox realised his dream with his first machine, the Cox Mowmobile.
With its 26-inch deck and just six hp, it gave rise to an Australian industry, with machines now with deck sizes up to 72 inches and engines up to 40 hp.
Launched in 1993 the COX Stockman continues the legend to this day - the little red tractors with the big heart, seen in every corner of Australia.
"It's a pleasure, a privilege, and indeed a responsibility to be a sales manager with an iconic Australian brand like COX," sales manager Aiden Andrews said.
"Established in Brisbane, Q in 1954 by its namesake, Owen Cox, COX mowers has grown to become a nationally known and trusted brand, kind of like Vegemite," Aiden said.
"COX celebrated its 70th birthday this year. I guess that means COX must be doing it right," he said.
"I don't think it's any one thing. It's a combination of many things. For sure it's the fully fabricated steel deck. Pressed metal is cheaper, but that's never been the COX way. Properly engineered and fabricated heavy-duty steel is more expensive to manufacture, but it makes for the strongest decks. Our decks last for years.
"And COX's swing back blades, fitted as standard, oversize wheel and tyre combo's, generous fuel tanks and comfortable seats so you can mow all day. Did I mention our dealers? COX has the largest dealer network of any mower brand in Australia. Sales, service, parts and repairs at over 200 locations across Australia."
What does the future hold for COX?
"What about fully autonomous mowing at up to 35 km/hour?" Aiden said.
