Horsham Station hosts holiday hang-outs
For a taste of something different during the school holidays, Horsham's Station youth centre on Pynsent Street hosted plenty of art, craft and activities to expand their knowledge and skills.
The Station held 10 days of free hang-out zones organised by Horsham Youth, which proved to be a winning formula.
"It's great we can offer a place for young people to go, especially during the winter," Horsham Youth events and programs officer Ari Vettos said.
"We're trying to get activities in that appeal to all ages."
Melbourne-based Blender Studios held two sessions on street art for young people where they were taught how to paint with a spray can.
Beginning with a demonstration from artist Matt Hannah on how to use a spray can and techniques to use, the participants trialled their own spray can skills before creating their final piece of art.
Drawing from inspiration and advice, they started by sketching first on paper an object or character that they wanted to paint on their board.
"It's something different that they wouldn't normally do," Ms Vettos said.
In another session, former circus performer and owner of Wobbly Spoon Dawa Raphael Che taught the youngsters the basics of juggling with scarves, balls, batons and rings. He also taught them hula hoops.
"Dawa was really good with the kids and giving them one-on-one time," Ms Vettos said.
