On Friday evening, January 10, Horsham Police and Crime Squad detectives arrested and charged a Horsham man at an address in Hickson Street during a several-hour police operation.

A spokesperson for Horsham Police said, "The Horsham man has been charged with reckless conduct endangering persons, criminal damage, firearm offences, theft of motor vehicle, use of firearm to resist arrest, firearm and weapons offence."

Police and Crime Scene officers surrounded the address Friday evening, blocking off several streets before making the arrest.

The police operation followed an earlier incident when a man allegedly drove a vehicle into a house on Stawell Road before fleeing the scene on foot, stealing a vehicle and threatening police.

"It is alleged he drove a vehicle into a house on Stawell Road before fleeing the scene on foot about 9am," police said.

"Two people inside the home were not injured.

"The man then allegedly stole a car and drove to a residential property on Hickson Street in Horsham."

During the police operation, several streets were barricaded by police vehicles and uniformed officers; a spike strip could be seen at the entrance of Hickson Street.

Nearby residents were told to remain inside their homes during the police operation.

One resident said he had noticed the Crime Scene Service vehicle in the street on Friday afternoon before police converged on the area and surrounded the address in Hickson Street later in the day.

Police and a Crime Scene Service vehicle were still at the address on Saturday, January 11, at 11:30am.

Police said the Horsham man was remanded to appear at Horsham Magistrates' Court on January 13 2024.
