Horsham Golf claim thrilling win

Horsham Golf defeated Coughlin Park 65-62 in a thriller at Coughlin Park Bowling Club on Saturday in round 10 of the Wimmera playing area Lawn Bowls pennant competition.

To show the closeness of the match, Coughlin Park won two rinks in the loss. Their rink, skippered by Anthony Woodhead and featuring Rowan Hawkins, Peter Beasley, and Adrian Besselaar, won 23-17 over Golf's rink, skippered by Bradley Robinson and featuring Geoffrey Bald, Heath Miller, and Chris Mellor.

Their other rink, skippered by Michael Ellis and featuring Charles Officer, Robert Mewburn, and Timothy Nihill, won a thriller 22-20 over the rink skippered by Ashley Batchelor, featuring Ken McClelland, Stephen Harris, and Danny Schmidt.

Gavin Walter skippered the deciding rink for Horsham Golf, which featured Graeme O'Connor, Denis Ballinger, and Hayden Tucker. They won 28-18 over Coughlin Park's rink, skippered by Craig Decker and featuring Allan Thompson, Kevin Cramer, and Mervyn Dean.

Joining Coughlin Park in equal first on the ladder is Horsham City, who defeated Goroke/Edenhope 75-65 at Horsham City Bowling Club.

Goroke/Edenhope's rink, skippered by Hugh Caldow, featuring Travis Crawford, John Burchell and Richard Smith, won 27-20. Daniel Gloury skippered Horsham City's rink which featured Bruce Campbell, Colin Morrell and Derek Ballinger.

Horsham City then comfortably won rink two, 30-14. Anthony King skippered that rink, which featured Ron Dolby, Geoffrey Inglis, and William Hogan. Philip Robinson skippered the opposing rink, which featured John Moloney, Frederick Lowe, and Wayne Caldow.

The thrilling rink was a 25-24 win to Horsham City. That rink was skippered by Kevin Clyne and featured Graham McDonald, Govan Bellinger and Michael Turner, while the opposing rink featured Barry Crick, Matthew Anderson, and Terry Exell and was skippered by Geoff Lowe.

At Sunnyside Bowling Club, Sunnyside ended Nhill's winning run, winning 81-55, claiming two rinks to one.

Sunnyside's rink one had a comfortable 31-8 win. Their rink was skippered by John Ackland and featured Gavin Watson, Murray Heard and Jillian Coutts. The opposing rink featured Ray Olney, Barry Cramer, and Ivan Reichelt and was skippered by Allan King.

Sunnyside's rink two had a solid 29-19 win. Stuart Cowan skippered the rink, which featured Chris Trotter, Roger Macinnes, and Rod Skurrie. Brad Blackwood skippered the opposing rink, which featured Roger Brown, Barry Morrison, and Daryl Leyonhjelm.

Nhill's winning rink was skippered by Darren Gebert and featured Russell Dunlop, Terry Robins, and Ryder Byrnes. They won 28-21 over the rink skippered by Rex Bergen, which featured Ron Tollbring, Paul Southcott, and Neil Magor.

At Dimboola Bowling Club, the home side won their second match of the season, defeating Kaniva 88-59, winning two rinks to one.

Alan Krahe's rink, featuring Wayne Albrecht, Petter Harradine and Shirley Thomas, won 36-16. Kaniva's rink featured Tyler Cooper, Adrian Coad, and Chris Larocca and was skippered by Darren Maddern.

Peter O'Loughlin skippered Dimboola's other winning rink, which featured Darryl Both, Greg Albrecht and Mary Argall. They won 34-14 over the rink featuring Russell Crouch, Paul Pearson, Janet Kuchel and skipper Bruce Dodson.

Jeffrey Meyer skippered Kaniva's only winning rink to a 29-18 win. His rink featured Malcolm Coutts, Colin Maddern, and Robert Puglisi. Dimboola's rink, skippered by Greg Cook, featured Robert Pyers, Mervyn Roberts, and Judith Albrecht.

In division two, Nhill remains two games clear of Horsham Golf on top of the ladder following an 81-50 win over Sunnyside. Horsham Golf defeated Coughlin Park 75-69, and Horsahm City defeated Goroke/Edenhope 82-60 in the other matches.

In division three, Nhill 3 remains on top of the ladder following a win over Horsham City. In the other match, Horsham Golf defeated Sunnyside 3, 79-56.

Thrilling result in mid-week pennant

Round nine of the midweek pennant featured a thrilling match between Dimboola and Sunnyside at Dimboola Bowling Club, with Sunnyside upsetting the ladder leaders to win 73-72.

Dimboola is joined on top of the adder with Horsham City, who defeated Kaniva 76-53. Coughlin Park defeated Nhill 66-55 in the other match.

In division two, Horsham City remains on top of the ladder, one game clear of Serviceton and Sunnyside, following a 45-34 win over Natimuk. In the other matches, Serviceton defeated Goroke/Edenhope 67-26, Coughlin Park 2 defeated Coughlin Park 3, 67-32, and Sunnyside defeated Dimboola, 53-48.
