Horsham City Pipe Band claim coveted awards at national competition
Horsham City Pipe Band travelled to Adelaide for the Pipe Bands Competition
Horsham City Pipe Band travelled to Adelaide for the Pipe Bands Competition on October 20, 2024 at Scotch College in Torrens Park and returned with several awards.
The locals were nudged out of first place by the Royal Caledonian Society of SA Pipes and Drums in Grade 4B but came in a close second and continued their winning streak with a first place in the Mini Bands Grade 4B class.
The competition included bands, mini bands and solos in a colourful display in the college grounds.
"We were delighted to see the Seymour Old Collegians' Pipe Band enter the competition field and to have the Horsham City Pipe Band travel to join us," the Pipe Band SA Secretary said.
"The Horsham Band is keen to continue supporting this competition and plan to compete next year," committee member Liz Minnie said.
"We look forward to many of the competition bands coming to our Festival in Horsham in September 2025.
Michael Stewart was awarded second place in the Solo Piping in C Grade and third place in B Grade.
"We are keen to attract more members, pipers, and drummers to our group," Ms Minnie said.
Organisers thanked the bands and soloists for participating and said the spectators' presence enhanced the atmosphere.
June McLeish for Piping, David Gray for Drumming VP Drumming QLD, and Brett Tidswell for Ensemble were the competition's adjudicators, some of whom traveled significant distances to be there.
