Horsham City ends Dimboola win streak
The Wimmera Playing Area division one pennant lawn bowls competition returned to action with round 12 on Saturday January 17, with Horsham City ending Dimboola’s seven-match win streak.
Playing at Dimboola Bowling Club, Horsham City defeated Dimboola 71-61 despite winning just one rink.
Horsham City’s rink one team of Colin Morrell, John Burchell and Bruce Campbell, skippered by Anthony King, defeated Dimboola’s team of Judith Albrecht, James McRae and Joshua Cook, skippered by Daniel Danisch, 32-18.
Dimboola’s rink two team of Greg Cook, Wayne Albrecht and Don Connors, skippered by Alan Krahe, took a 21-19 win over William Hogan, Duncan Bottoms and Graham McDonald, skippered by Ron Dolby.
Dimboola overcame Horsham City 22-20 in rink three, as Darryl Argall, Shannon Williams, Darryl Both and skipper Peter O’Loughlin defeated Horsham City’s Douglas Mitchell, John Lehmann, Kevin Smith and skipper Kevin Clyne.
At Sunnyside, Goroke Edenhope advanced their push for a potential finals spot with a 77-56 victory over the home team.
In rink one, Goroke Edenhope’s team of John Moloney, Travis Crawford and Terry Exell, skippered by Hugh Caldow, took a tight 22-19 win over Sunnyside’s Paul Southcott, Roger MacInnes and Chris Trotter, skippered by Gavin Watson.
The visitor’s team of Richard Smith, Barry Crick and Trevor Mulraney, skippered by Geoff Lowe, overcame Sunnyside’s Barry McIntyre, Rod Skurrie and Rex Bergen, skippered by Dale McRae, 25-21 in rink two.
Goroke Edenhope’s rink three team of Joel Lowe, Wayne Caldow and Bruce Ackland, skippered by Philip Robinson, defeated Sunnyside’s Lane Hyde, Norma Hair and Stuart Cowan, skippered by John Ackland, 30-16.
Defending premiers Nhill started the new year in style with a comprehensive 86-53 victory over Coughlin Park at Nhill Bowling Club.
The home side took out rink one 33-18 as the team of Nicholas Robins, Roger Brown, Greg Ryan and skipper Darren Gebert defeated Coughlin Park’s team of Damian Bryan, Greg Sleep, Peter Beasley and skipper Craig Decker.
Nhill’s rink two team of Matthew Morrison, Brad Blackwood and Ryder Byrnes, skippered by Kevin Jones, overcame Coughlin Park’s Mark Schumann, Allan Thompson and Rowan Hawkins, skippered by Michael Ellis, 24-21.
In rink three, Nhill’s team of Ray Olney, Barry Cramer and Ivan Reichelt, skippered by Allan King, defeated Coughlin Park’s team of Terry Sartori, Robert Mewburn and Charles Officer, skippered by Robin Shaw, 29-14.
At Kaniva Bowling Club, the home side won two out of three rinks as they upset league leaders Horsham Golf 72-56.
Kaniva’s rink one team of Janet Kuchel, Paul Pearson and Malcolm Coutts, skippered by Jeffrey Meyer, defeated Horsham Golf’s team of Hayden Tucker, Danny Schmidt and Ken McClelland, skippered by Bradley Robinson, 26-16.
Rink two saw Kaniva take out a 31-18 win, as the team of Darren Maddern, Russell Crouch and Tyler Cooper, skippered by Bruce Dodson, proved too strong for Horsham Golf’s Chris Mellor, Craig Bennett and Denis Ballinger, skippered by Gavin Walter.
Horsham Golf won rink three 22-15 as their team of Ross Barnett, Stephen Harris and Geoffrey Bald, skippered by Ash Batchelor, defeated Kaniva’s team of Steve Duthie, Timothy Meyer and Adrian Coad, skippered by Christopher La Rocca.
In Division Two, Coughlin Park defeated Dimboola 77-57, Nhill just edged out Horsham Golf 71-68, Goroke Edenhope defeated Horsham City 87-51, and Sunnyside defeated Natimuk via forfeit.
In Division Three, Nhill three defeated Coughlin Park four 82-41, Nhill four clinched a 64-63 victory over Coughlin Park three, Horsham Golf defeated Kaniva 76-56, and Horsham City defeated Sunnyside 65-42.
