It was a tight first quarter with the Hornets taking a slender one point lead at quarter time. A brilliant second quarter saw them extend that lead to 12 points at half time.

They extended their lead to 17 points at three quarter time and Terang came at them hard in the last quarter but the Hornets were able to hang on to win 86-80.

Coach Scott Benbow said their long range game was unreal.

"They hit a lot of three pointers and it kept them in it," he said.

"I have to give a big credit to the boys for staying strong in the last and coming away with a win. It wasn't easy."

League leading scorer Austin McKenzie celebrated his 50th and whilst he didn't lead the scoring this game, Matthew Brown stepped up with 24 and Cody Bryan was his consistent self with 23.

Benbow said that Brown was huge.

"We knew they would focus on Aussie and Cody so we said to Brown at the start of the game we will get him the ball more," he said.

"He worked well on the ring and was the best player by a mile.

"Aussie was serviceable without being his dominant best but we are fine with that. We don't want to have to rely on the same player every game."
