Richard Hicks is keen for another term with West Wimmera Shire Council in 2024.
Hello, residents of West Wimmera Shire. Many of you may feel disconnected from the council elections, and some councillors may be out of touch with everyday issues, while some may not be focused on the needs of our diverse communities.
Now is your time to make your vote count.
I have nominated as a candidate in the upcoming elections.
I have been privileged to serve as a councillor for our Shire for five of the past eight years.
I have strived to be a strong voice and advocate for fair and equitable support for all residents.
I pledge to continue advocating for our community, prioritising road repairs and reconstruction within our Shire and upgrading telecommunications facilities to eliminate 'blackspots.'
I will further support and encourage tourism, support our local tourism providers, benefit our local economies, and promote West Wimmera as a great place to live, work, and play. I will also encourage rezoning and release more housing blocks to encourage housing investment.
This will benefit our schools and support sporting clubs.
I will encourage lobbying State and Federal Government Departments for our share of grants.
This is essential to support childcare, aged care, hospitals, medical facilities, sporting and recreational activities.
With dwindling government grants and external funds, our Shire must have a cohesive council with the experience and qualifications to oversee our financial viability and develop sustainable, longer-term strategies and goals.
My professional background in multifaceted international agricultural and community development, executive positions in complex project implementation, and management teamed with my Bachelor's and Master's degrees, equip me with a unique skill set to benefit our Shire and support our residents.
I am keen to advocate for you and support our Shire over the next four years.
