Heading to semis with wins

Last Saturday at Dock Lake Reserve, the Seniors and Reserves teams had wins against Taylors Lake, while the U14’s lost by four points after coming from three goals down at half time to hit the front in the last quarter.
The Seniors will now play Harrow Balmoral at Stawell in the second semi final on August 26.
Only losing two home-and-away games for the season was one of the best results in the clubs history.
Congratulations and all the best to the A Grade, Under 17 and Under 15 netball teams who will be playing finals next weekend.
SENIORS
For the second week in a row the team had huge win.
Darwin players Nick Yarran, Brad Stokes, Antonio James and Braxton Ah Mat did not make the trip south this week, while Tom Schumann was a last minute withdrawal, being replaced by Jordan Leach who had already played a quarter in the Reserves.
The other players to come into the team were Will Hutchinson, Jakob Cocks, Lewis Cocks and Jake Parry.
The main interest at the beginning of the game was with Ash Clugston on 47 goals for the season - how long would it take him to kick his 50th goal?
Twenty minutes into the first quarter, Clugston took advantage of a dominant midfield and finished with five goals for the game.
After Taylors Lake kicking the first goal of the game, Jeparit Rainbow kicked the next five and a string of behinds to lead by 28 points at quarter time.
The second quarter saw Jeparit Rainbow in complete control as they kept Taylors Lake goalless while kicking nine.
Will Hutchinson, playing out of the goal square alongside Peter Weir, was proving very dangerous as he kicked two goals for the quarter and four for the game.
Matt Synoradski kicked the goal of the game, starting his run at half forward, dodging several opponents to kick the goal from the top of the square.
The half time lead had blown out to 82 points.
In the second half, it was the turn of the midfielders, as Trent Burgoyne and Xavier Oakley both finished with four goals, while Tom Clarke also kicked four goals.
Burgoyne and Clarke showed off their silky skills, while Oakley’s hard running led to him winning possessions all over the ground.
Scott Driscoll was the “General” around the ground, controlling the play whenever he got the ball.
Synoradski controlled his wing as well, finishing with three goals.
Leading by 122 points at three quarter time, the final margin was 157 points.
RESERVES
For the second week in a row, we saw a thrilling game.
Down by six points at half time, a dominant third quarter resulted in Jeparit Rainbow being 10 points up at three quarter time.
Then, former Jeparit Rainbow player Brent Tough kicked two goals to give the lead to Taylors Lake - it was a great battle all day between the veteran and young Joad Fuller.
We saw Jeparit Rainbow lift as Aidan Gelligen marked and goaled to regain the lead, then he quickly followed up with another goal.
Three more goals followed, including one to Jason Hutson, as the team ran out 28 point winners.
Hutson was joined on the goalkickers list by fellow veterans Steve Murphy and Mick Preston.
Jonno Dai came into the game late and kicked two last quarter goals.
Liam Preston and Ben Smith were the two dominant players on the ground as they won many possessions and used the ball well.
Kodi Effrett provided lots of run, while Gavin Nikkelson played his best game for the year.
Phoenix Oakley did well in the ruck, and Allan Roberts enjoyed his run in the midfield.
Four wins and a draw was a good result over the season for a team that was always short of numbers.
With Taylors Lake in a similar position, we saw many older players on both teams playing on or coming out of retirement so their clubs could field a team.
UNDER 14’s:
As mentioned above, the team nearly finished their season on a high with a great second half of football.
Fletcher Keller, who had played well in the backline in the first half of the game, went forward to give the team the spark they needed. kicking a goal and helping set others up.
Max Spokes kicked three goals at full forward, and Ryder Gould kept winning the ball and using his pace to break away.
Lenny Weir and Jasper Bigham provided good leadership as they lifted their team mates around them.
Hugo Gould and Flynn Hutson also played good games.
Winning four games for the year was a good result for a team that featured a number of younger players.
Many of these players showed lots of improvement over the season.
