HCA under 13s claim two wins
The Horsham Cricket Association under-13 representative team competed in the Port of Portland Country Week tournament from January 12-14, claiming two wins to finish fourth in division one.
HCA opened the tournament against Warrnambool Moyne Blue, who elected to bat first and reached 8/118 off 25 overs.
Seven bowlers claimed one wicket each, with Steele Oakley (1/4), Jack Steadman (1/6), and Tex Askew (1/7) being among the most economical.
In reply, HCA was bowled out for 75.
Archie Ward top-scored with 19, while Jagger Williams had 9 not out.
In Monday’s other game, HCA played the Hamilton Hurricanes Green side, who elected to bat first.
In a superb bowling performance, the team bowled Hamilton out for 42, as Archie Ward (2/0) and Peter Smith (2/1) each picked up two wickets.
In their innings, HCA chased down the total and played out the 25 overs to finish at 7/105.
Peter Smith led the way with 22 retired not out, while Jagger Williams (14) and Oscar Combe (13) were also among the runs.
In their first Tuesday game, HCA won the toss and elected to bat against Warrnambool Moyne Gold.
The Warrnambool side scored 6/146. For HCA, Archie Ward led the way with figures of 3/10, while Alex Price had 2/17.
Despite an all-round team batting performance, Horsham were unable to chase down the runs and finished 5/129.
Edward Schorback (25), Peter Smith (21) and Oscar Combe (16) all retired not out, while Tex Askew had 15 runs.
Later that day, the side played Mount Gambier, who elected to bowl against HCA.
After some early wickets, Edward Schorback settled the innings with 28 retired not out before Tex Askew (29 retired not out off 20 balls) and Braxton Starick (30 retired not out off 21 balls) each hit five boundaries to steer the side to 5/151.
In response, HCA held off Mount Gambier, who totalled 5/141.
Tex Askew and Felix Foster starred with the ball as both finished with figures of 2/10, while Edward Schorback had 1/19.
In their final game, HCA elected to bowl against South West, who were bowled out for 125 late in the final over of the innings.
Judd Thomson had an impressive 3/4 with the ball, while Felix Foster had 2/3.
After being within reach during the run chase, HCA fell nine runs short of South West to finish at 6/116.
Edward Schorback led the side with the bat over the tournament, scoring 72 runs at an average of 24, followed closely by Tes Askew, who had 71 runs.
With the ball, Archie Ward finished with six wickets at an average of 7, while Felix Foster, Alex Price and Judd Thomson all took five wickets.
Schorback led the side with five catches, while Peter Smith, Oscar Combe, Felix Foster and Steele Oakley all had three across the week.
