HAC's yellow brick road just around the corner
Theatre lovers across the region are in for a show with heart as the Horsham Arts Council presents a stage adaptation of the 1939 classic, The Wizard of Oz.
Through stellar local talent and unforgettable music, patrons will experience Dorothy Gale’s timeless journey from Kansas to the vibrant land of Oz.
Opening on next week, this production promises magic and fun for the whole family, delivered by a passionate cast and crew.
This localized production will feature Harriet Overman in her first lead role as Dorothy, alongside Stacey Brennan as the Wicked Witch of the West and Jess Wilson as Glinda.
The production will also feature a Munchkin cast of 28 local children, aged from five to 12 years old, divided into two rotating groups of 14.
Co-executive producer Simon Dandy, who will play the Wizard of Oz, said he was thrilled for opening night and loves having excited, young performers on board.
“It has been a joy to have them involved and to see how excited they are. Many of them are doing their first musical production, which is amazing,” he said.
“They are so brave to be getting on stage in front of a live audience. It has been a joy to have them involved.
"It makes all of us oldies feel younger. It is heartwarming to see the joy on the parents’ faces when they come to rehearsal and see their children having a blast."
Other local talent includes Darcy Hogan as the Scarecrow, Noah Wineberg as the tinman, Noah Mibus as the cowardly lion and Loucas Vettos as the Emerald City Guard.
Mr Dandy has also commended Director Erin Boutcher for her tireless efforts in bringing the show together.
“Erin Boutcher has done an incredible job with this show, ably supported by her mother, HAC life member Debbie Boutcher,” he said.
While local theatre-goers may hold a few favourite productions to their hearts, the Horsham Arts Council is renowned for putting on spectacular performances, and this upcoming show will be no exception.
Preparations are in full swing for eight highly anticipated performances, with tecnical and dress rehearsals next week before the grand opening on Thursday, June 11.
