Grant success for library shades
Hindmarsh Shire Libraries recently received funding from the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.
This Victorian Government program offers grants to improve public library facilities, supporting projects from small upgrades to major construction.
In this round, Hindmarsh Shire Libraries applied for funding to install two large shade sails in the Dimboola Library courtyard, which is the open area between the Old Shire Hall on Lloyd Street and the Library hub building.
They also requested internal blinds for the library’s west-facing windows.
The council is happy to share that the internal blinds have already been installed and are now in use.
These blinds help protect our books from the strong sun and keep the library cooler during warm weather.
Work on the shade sail structures has started, and the council will share updates on the progress through their social media pages.
While construction is happening, the council will need to restrict access to this part of the Library hub.
Most of the work will likely take place on Mondays, when the library is already closed.
Users can still reach the public toilets at the back of the gardens by entering from the north side of the library building, next to Dimboola Pottery.
Hindmarsh Shire Libraries are excited to make the Dimboola Library’s outdoor space more usable and sun-safe.
This will allow activities to happen safely outside and give people more chances to use the space even when the library is closed.
