Good fields for golf

SATURDAY at the Warracknabeal Golf Club saw a good roll up of 31 men and 10 ladies to compete in their respective stableford events.
Mens A Grade was won by Russell Schultz (hcp 12) with 35 stableford points followed by David Kranz (16) also with 35 points (countback decided the winner over the last six holes).
The B Grade was won by Mick Marchment (23) with 34 points and runner-up Wayne George (21) with 33 points.
Other good scores were David Stewart also with 35 points, Ash Purdue and Bernie Naylor who both had 32 points.
Nearest the pin ninth hole was not won, nor was any man who were nearest on the fifth hole. Ladies fifth hole, Sue Sanford; seventh hole, Wayne George and Sue Sanford; 13th hole, Dennis Murphy and Shirley Liersch.
A reminder that next week’s event is the Life Members Mixed Pinehurst and if any male is looking for a partner please ring Wendy Hewitt who may have a list of names of ladies wishing to play.
Of the 31 players in the mens event on Saturday it was noticed by the scribe that only 12 players reached the 30 point area. It’s a tough course but that makes a good challenge week after week. Why not join up and come and take the challenge.

Thursday’s Palace Hotel Meal Run saw 16 players compete. Winner on the front nine was Dave Trippett (19) with 19 points followed by Roy Liersch on 16 points.
The back nine hole winner was Joe Chivell with an excellent 21 points followed by Dave Trippett with 16 points. The overall winner over the 18 holes was Joe Chivell with 36 points.
Nearest the pin 13th hole was Wayne Dovaston.
Monday’s public holiday Jono and Johno event was held amongst eight men and five ladies.
In the men’s stableford event, Wayne George, who has come back in form after a lay off, had a score of 20 stableford points on the front nine holes. The back nine holes was won by David Kranz with 16 points but with Wayne George having 15 points on the back nine holes, he came out the winner of the day on 35 points.
Ladies winner was Wendy Hewitt with a great score of 40 points (17 and 23 points).
Nearest the pin fifth hole, no man, ladies, Wendy Hewitt; seventh hole, no man, Wendy Hewitt; 13th hole, Daniel Kearns and Sue Sanford.
Speaking of Daniel, Kearnsy walked up to a construction site and approached the foreman, “g’day mate, I’m Daniel, have you got a job for me?”
The foreman said, “sure thing, be here tomorrow at eight o’clock sharp”.
Next day, a Rolls Royce pulled up and out steps a chauffeur who opens the door for Daniel. The stunned foreman pointed to a pile of bricks and said, “you can start building a wall over there”.
But by 10 o’clock his curiosity got the better of him and he called Daniel in to ask if the Rolls Royce was his.
“Yes”, said Daniel. “It’s mine alright”.
“But how did you get the money for that?”
“Well, yer see, I’m a professional gambler. I gamble on anything, any time. For instance, right now I’ll bet you $10 that you have a wart on your bum”.
“You’re on”, said the foreman and proceeded to pull down his trousers. But Daniel complained about the light and asked the foreman to move over to the door where he had a good look and saw that there was no wart in sight and paid the $10.
“You lost”, laughed the foreman, folding his money, “I thought you were a professional gambler”.
“I am”, said Daniel.
“See the 25 construction workers standing on those balconies. I bet them all $50 that I’d have your bare bum sticking through the door before lunch”.
