Warracknabeal residents are being asked to take advantage of next week’s opportunity and help families of men and women who have served our country during times of war.
Legacy Badge Week is a major fundraiser for the national Legacy organisation, which formed 100 years ago, after the First World War, after a dying serviceman asked his friends to care for his wife and family.
Legatees have helped thousands of soldiers and their families over the years, and currently offer support to about 40,000 people - mostly widows of servicemen.
The Wimmera branch’s 32 Legatees continue to help almost 90 local widows across the Wimmera and Southern Mallee - the majority of whom are now over 75.
Badge Week’s Horsham organiser Neville Smith said the money from the sale of badges and other items would be used locally, and that donations over $2 are tax deductible.
“Legacy provides comfort and security by supporting older widows and helping them live fuller and happier lives,” Mr Smith said.
This year’s Badge Week is from Monday August 28 to Saturday September 2.
Volunteers will also be in Horsham Plaza for the whole week, as well as at Horsham Post Office, Birchip, Murtoa, Donald, Hopetoun, Jeparit, Rainbow and Dimboola on September 1, and will have collection boxes at Nhill, Harrow and Edenhope.
