Get gardening with like-minded people
Dimboola and District Gardening Club meets behind the Dimboola Library on the first Sunday of the month at 9.30am where members swap advice and knowledge on everything gardening.
From pests to the best time to plant to what will work in the space you have, everyone is welcome to attend.
If you’re interested in gardening or even just thinking about starting a garden, come down and have a chat.
I bring a folder of printouts for members to look through and take home, including kids' activities.
We have started a seed bank that I bring to meetings and have just brought some interesting gardening books for people to look at and book if they like.
I’ve been in contact with gardeners across the Wimmera to start planning trips for the club to attend in different areas, such as community gardens, nurseries and botanical gardens.
I have also been in talks about something big for the gardening club and Dimboola as a whole but now is not the time to tell just make sure you watch this space.
[CROSSHEAD] Tips and advice
With winter here the rain has been a blessing, however, with winter also comes the frost and that can be devastating for our gardens!
I suggest if the plants are sensitive to frost and are in pots, shift them in a covered area like a porch or inside your house or shed.
Remember, they still need sun so near a window or moved them out of a morning and in of a night.
If they are too heavy to move or are planted in the ground, get an old sheet and drape it over before night fall, and remove it in the morning.
It will do wonders for protecting the plants.
Don’t use plastic trap as it doesn’t breathe.
It will lock in the moisture and can cause more damage.
